SPALDING LIONS GLASSES COLLECTION

Spalding Lions have been collecting glasses since September 2002
. In that time, they have collected approximately 60,000 pairs. They collect from twelve outlets which are as follows: Molsom Optometrists, Munro Medical Centre, Tulip Radio and Monkshouse Scouts & Guides hunt. They also collect any hearing aids and mobile phones. When they have 4 of 5 boxes approx - (2,000 pairs) they forward these on to Chichester Lions club where they are processed in their workshop. They are then forwarded to Le Havre Lions in France where they have the necessary equipment to clean and grade the spectacles so they are then ready for use in eye camps in Africa, India and Eastern Europe. Some have also been sent directly to eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal. We also collect sun glasses as these are needed for patients to wear after eye surgery.
