New Keep fit classes in Spalding and Holbeach
Legs, Bums & Tums and Aerobics classes are starting this month at various locations, thanks to Lincolnshire Active Community Network which is developing sessions to encourage people to get active in 2012.
The new classes include a 50yrs plus Legs, Bums and Tums session at Sezanne Walk, Spalding on a Tuesday 10.30 – 11.30am.
Legs, Bums and Tums and Aerobics starting at Lyndis Walk, Community Hall, Holbeach every Tuesday 6.00 – 7.00pm and 7.00 – 8.00pm.
Legs, Bums and Tums continues to take place at Lime Court Community Centre, Spalding every Wednesday evening (6.00 – 7.00pm).
Indoor bowls every Wednesday in Long Sutton and Weston.
All fitness classes cost £3.50 and the indoor bowls £2.00 and booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Libraries: the road to theory test success! Learner drivers can now get a helping hand towards passing their theory test, thanks to their local library. Lincolnshire libraries are now offering Theory Test Pro free to members. The service provides a highly-realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test, for all vehicles. The service can even be accessed from the comfort of your own home, 24-hours a day, by visiting www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/librariesonline. Users do not even need their library card to access the service from library or other county council-run computers, but will be prompted to enter their library card number if accessing the service from home. Your County Needs You! The search for 2012 Spalding Flower Queen has begun!
To enter you need to be aged 17 years or over and live in the South Holland area. You will need to show suitability for this high profile position by demonstrating not only how personable you are but also your commitment to the local community. Preliminary interviews will be held at Tulip Radio and six finalists will be chosen to attend a Reception in the magnificent setting of Ayscoughfee Hall on Friday 16th March where the winner of the Spalding Flower Queen 2012 will be crowned at approximately 8pm. All of our lucky finalists will receive a gift voucher and a bouquet of flowers, and will also take part in the Parade as part of the Royal entourage.

Health Walks in Spalding. Walking is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get involved in physical activity, and there are numerous Health Walks being led in Spalding and the surrounding area. Trained volunteer Health Walk leaders lead free short walks to include everybody regardless of ability, in a friendly and sociable environment, in and around the local town and countryside. There are currently walk groups in Spalding, Crowland, Holbeach, Sutton St. James and Long Sutton which meet and walk weekly. The majority of walks are between 45 minutes and 1 hour 20 minutes. Castle Sports Complex in Spalding to hold world record charity Swimarathon. 25 February, 12pm – 1pm. Organised by the South Holland Rotary Club in conjunction with the South Lincolnshire Competitive Swimming Club, the Castle Sports Complex is to be the venue for an audacious global world record attempt on behalf of the ‘Rotary End Polio Now’ campaign. Taking place on Saturday 25 February between 12pm and 1pm, the Swimarathon will aim to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of people swimming 100 metres together around the world in the same hour.

Radar Challenge 2012, Sunday 18 March, 10am – 3pm, Cloot Drove, Crowland. The event will be held on a circular route around Cloot drove and the river bank access road towards Crowland. Rotary and Lions are the main organizers of the event again with joint organizers Fenland Harriers Running club and the Spalding Cycling Club. There will be four main events during the day: 10am is the first start time for the 3k Fun Run (Estimated 100 runners); 10.30am is the serious 10k road race (maximum entry of 300 runners); at 12 noon there is the fun family cycle ride for 12k (estimated 100 cyclists); and at 1:30pm there is the 5k sponsored walk (estimated 150 people). Finish and clear the site at 3pm to leave at 4pm.

Parkinson’s Awareness Week 2012, Monday 16 April – Sunday 22 April, national and regional activities all over the UK. Parkinson’s Awareness Week is run by the research and support charity Parkinson’s UK. The aim is to raise awareness and understanding of what Parkinson’s is, the need to fund more research to find a cure for this devastating neurological condition, and how Parkinson’s affects people and their loved ones. The overall theme is ‘find a cure’ and a special appeal will be launched for volunteers to take part in a large nationwide research study.

Spalding Sprint Triathlon, Sunday 10 June, Castle Sports Complex Pool, Spalding.The event begins with a 400 metre pool swim followed by a flat 19 kilometre bike course, finishing with a 5 kilometre run to the finish.
